Fly Ash - The IVU Process

Based on more than 10 years of research and approximately 10,000 experiments Dipl.-Ing. K. Schorch, Managing Director of the IVU mbH, Erfurt, Germany, developed the DISPERSOPT-FAR PROCESS which turns Fly Ash from, for example, coal-fired power stations into an eluation proof, ecologically and commercially viable, cementlike, building material. Dangerous substances included in the Fly Ash, or in an added by-mix, are immobilised during the hardening process.

In 1995 the DISPERSOPT-FAR PROCESS was patented and in 1996 the first IVU-FAR plant started operation at a site near Leipzig. It is in full commercial production and has produced several 100,000 tonnes of DISPERGAT since the beginning.

In 2000 a second FAR plant, incorporating many innovations, will commence production. The output capacity will be approximately 300,000 tonnes per an-num. The investment of DM 13.00 million needed to build the plant is expected to be recouped in only 3 years, or less!

By using the DISPERSOPT process to create DISPERGAT, a remarkable material is made available for the building trade, it can overcome serious noxious waste problems, can provide additives to enable clay preparation processes in the brick and cement industries to be speeded up considerably and it can be used as a desulphurisation sorbent. All at very viable commercial levels. New uses for DISPERGAT are being discovered all the time.
